IHM
Jubilee
Sunday, July 10,
2005
Blessing given by Sr. Mary Persico
and sung response by Sr. Patricia Scalese. Below are audio files
of On A Day Like this from With
One Voice CD.
Today is a day for
being drenched with God.
All days, all nights we know are so –
but on a day like this, we may go –
God-drenched awhile, under skies of peace and strength.
Sisters, Jubilarians, the days and months of your lives have
turned into years and today we mark them…25, 50, 60, 70,
75, and even 80. We mark them by remembering not only how God
has blessed you but also and gratefully how God has drenched
us with love in each of you. Enjoy this moment, this memory,
and allow us to share with you how God has touched the world
through your goodness and compassion, your radiance and faithfulness,
your kindness and wisdom…
This hour,
in this place I pray
only to thirst, only to hunger.
This wild singing fills my heart,
reaching for You, O God.
Today is a day for being drenched with God.
All days, all nights we know are so –
but on a day like this, we may go –
God-drenched awhile, under skies of peace and strength.
You mentored and befriended us. That’s why we’re
here today, ever thankful for the God-lessons. You walk with
us still, making the triumphs sweeter and the burdens lighter.
You have climbed to the heights of ministry with us, where we
can view the weary world and have the courage to conquer it
for God’s sake. Likewise, you companion us in our living
and in our praying, and show us by the example of your lives
that a presence more than human sits gently among us.
My gifts, my desires
are Yours –
not my own design, but Your
pattern to weave.
Come, take this life I give.
All I have is Yours.
Today is a day for being drenched with God.
All days, all nights we know are so –
but on a day like this, we may go –
God-drenched awhile, under skies of peace and strength.
We have watched you share your gifts, freely and abundantly:
the hand of an artist, the mind of a teacher, the touch of a
musician, the receptive ear of one who listens and waits, the
skill of the receptionist, secretary, administrator, assistant,
companion, the heart of one who spends her days in prayer -
all confronting a secular world with the beauty of the sacred.
God’s pattern, woven in each of you, embodies the spirit
of Theresa and Alphonsus and Jesus, and pieces together the
spirit of IHM.
My life is spent searching
for You.
Slide ever so slightly my soul
into the deep exquisite joy
of Your brilliance ablaze.
Today is a day for being drenched with God.
All days, all nights we know are so –
but on a day like this, we may go –
God-drenched awhile, under skies of peace and strength.
Sisters, today we put aside what troubles us. We pause, God-drenched
awhile, to rejoice in God’s graced presence in each of
you, our Jubilarians. Your quest for God has brought you to
this moment, healers, peace-makers, teachers, lovers, friends.
We, the Leadership Team and all who have shared this IHM journey
with you, now ask God to bless you as we renew our commitment
of prayerful support in community. You have touched our lives
and changed us and with all our hearts we give thanks…
On a day like this.
