Sister M. Dorinda Dougherty, IHM

Sister M. Dorinda Dougherty, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, December 19, 2007 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on June 23, 1920 in Palmer, PA. She was the daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth Phillips Dougherty. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1939 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1942 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1945.

She served as a teacher at St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant from 1942 to 1943; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1943 to 1950; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Silver Spring, Md., from 1950 to 1955; St. Bernardine Elementary School in Baltimore, Md., from 1955 to 1957; St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, Del., from 1957 to 1963; St. Rita Elementary School in Dundalk, Md., from 1963 to 1966; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Lock Haven from 1966 to 1967; and at Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., from 1967 to 1972 and served as the CCD Coordinator there from 1972 to 1978. She also served as CCD Coordinator at St. Rocco Parish in Pittston from 1978 to 1981 and at St. Patrick Parish in Milford from 1981 to 1982. She was the Director of Religious Education at St. Rose Parish in Carbondale and from 1982 to 1990 and at St. Cyril of Jerusalem Parish in Jamison, Pa. from 1990 to 2000. From 2000 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by five sisters, Anna Mae, Margaret, Katherine, Elizabeth and Agnes Corbett; and eight brothers, John E., William, Patrick, James, Francis, Edward, Bernard and Austin.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, December 22, at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Friday, December 21, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Sister Mary Alice Wheatley, IHM

Sister Mary Alice Wheatley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, October 10, 2007 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Formerly known as Sister M. Almarita, she was born on September 17, 1941 in Newport, Md. She was the daughter of the late Francis V. and Rita Clements Wheatley. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1959 and made her temporary profession of vows on June 27, 1962 and her final profession of vows on June 27, 1967.

She served as a teacher at St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler from 1964 to 1966; St. Thomas Elementary School in Bedford from 1966 to 1969; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, Md, from 1969 to 1975; Little Flower Elementary School in Bethesda, Md, from 1975 to 1981 and as principal there in 1978; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton from 1981 to 1986; Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green from 1986 to 1991; and at Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, NY, from 1991 to 1994. She taught first grade at St. Ambrose Elementary School in Bridgeport, Ct, from 1994 to 2007. From July 2007 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother James Howard and a sister Helen Marie McCann.

She is survived by a sister, Bernardine, and two brothers, Richard T. and Francis V., nieces Beverly Bridgett and Cynthia Bridges all of La Plata, Md; niece Jacqueline Miyasto of Hawaii and nephew Scott McCann of Huntington, NY.

The funeral will be Monday, October 15, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Sunday, October 14, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Sister M. Franzchen Yahner, IHM

Sister M. Franzchen Yahner, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born Catherine Marie on July 23, 1916 in Patton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ambrose and Mary A. Sharbaugh Yahner. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1935 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 2, 1938 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1941.

She served as a teacher at Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton from 1938 to 1940; St. Ann Parish in Devon, CT, from 1940 to 1944; St. Ambrose Parish and School in Bridgeport, CT, from 1944 to 1958 and 1974 to 1977; St. Raymond Elementary School in East Rockaway, NY, from 1958 to 1963; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport from 1963 to 1965; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven from 1965 to 1966; St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh from 1966 to 1968; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore from 1968 to 1969; Holy Angels Elementary School in Hays from 1969 to 1970; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY, from 1970 to 1971; and at St. Mary Elementary School in Goldsboro, NC, from 1971 to 1974. She served on the staff at the Catholic Child Care Center in Hollidaysburg from 1977 to 1978. She also served on the staff at the Marian Convent in Scranton from 1978 to 1985. She was a prayer minister at St. Bernard’s Convent in Hastings from 1985 to 1986. From 1986 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education and a Master of Science degree in Religious Studies from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother Paul and two sisters, Barbara Harkins and Teresa Corcoran.

She is survived by a sister, Henrietta O’Leary of Loretto; a brother, Francis and sister-in-law, Rose Mary Holtz Yahner of Patton; a sister-in-law, Rosemarie Yahner of Patton; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Thursday, October 11, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Sister M. Victoire Moran, IHM

Sister M. Victoire Moran, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, August 24, 2007 at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY.

Born Mary Catherine on April 5, 1922 in Lock Haven, PA, she was the daughter of the late Roigh M. and Mary D. Dennehy Moran. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1940 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 9, 1943 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1946.

She served as a teacher at Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton from 1943 to 1952; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo from 1952 to 1955; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton from 1955 to 1956; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville from 1956 to 1959; St. Mary of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore from 1959 to 1970; and at St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, DE, from 1970 to 1971. She served as principal at the following schools: Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton from 1971 to 1974; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, Md, from 1974 to 1983; and at St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1983 to 1989. She was the Library Coordinator at St. Peter of Alcantara School in Port Washington, NY, from 1989 to 2005. From 2005 until the time of her death she served as a receptionist at St. Peter of Alcantara Rectory in Port Washington, NY.

She received a Bachelor of Music degree in music education and a Master of Science degree in religious education both from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph M. and a sister, Patricia M. Probst.

She is survived by a sister, Loretto M. Stone of New York, NY, a brother, John R. of Neptune, NJ, a sister-in-law, Jean Moran and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, August 28, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the IHM Center, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the IHM Center on Monday, August 27, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Sister M. Dolora Mullarkey, IHM

Sister M. Dolora Mullarkey, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born on February 5, 1927 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Patrick J. and Mary C. Scanlon Mullarkey. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1944 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1947 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1950.

She served as a teacher at Sacred Heart Elementary School in La Plata, Md., from 1947 to 1950; St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh from 1950 to 1955; St. Michael Elementary School in Hoban Heights from 1955 to 1956; St. Thomas Elementary School in Providence, R.I., from 1956 to 1957; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, N.Y., from 1957 to 1962; St. Paul Elementary School in Cranston, R.I., from 1962 to 1966; St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, DE, from 1966 to 1971; Bishop Neumann High School in Williamsport from 1971 to 1972; Archbishop Neale Elementary School in La Plata, MD., 1972 to 1977; Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., from 1977 to 1978; St. Peter of Alcantara in Port Washington, N.Y., from 1978 to 1979; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1979 to 1980; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1980 to 1986; St. Mary of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore from 1986 to 1993; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, N.Y., from 1993 to 2007. She was preceded in death by a brother, Patrick J. and a sister, Mary.

She is survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sister Mary Doris Flynn, IHM

Sister Mary Doris Flynn, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born on August 19, 1919 in Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Amalia Barth Flynn. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 1, 1947 and made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1949 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1952.

She served as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, N.Y. from 1950 to 1954; St. Raymond Elementary School in East Rockaway, N.Y. from 1954 to 1956; St. Bernadine Elementary School in Baltimore, M.D. from 1956 to 1958; Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, N.Y. from 1958 to 1959; St. John High School in Pittston from 1959 to 1961; Holy Rosary High School in Scranton from 1961 to 1965; St. Mary High School in Manhasset, N.Y. from 1965 to 1969; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, N.Y. from 1969 to 1972;. She also worked as a secretary at the Rockville Centre Diocesan Office in Rockville Centre, N.Y. from 1972 to 1975; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, N.Y. from 1975 to 1982; Maria Regina High School, Uniondale, N.Y. from 1982 to 1983; St. Mary's High School in Manhasset, N.Y. from 1992 to 1999. From 1999 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Art degree from Marywood College and a Master of Business Administration degree from New York University.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert D. Flynn.

She is survived by several cousins.

Sister M. Eugene Coyne, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, July 27, 2007 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born Elizabeth on October 19, 1919 in Pittsburgh, PA, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Anna O’Malley Coyne. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1938 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1941 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1944.

She served as a teacher at St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport from 1941 to 1945; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown from 1945 to 1953; St. Joseph Elementary School in New Bern, N.C. from 1953 to 1956; St. Michael Elementary School in Hoban Heights from 1956 to 1963; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale from 1963 to 1970; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Altoona from 1970 to 1972; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald from 1972 to 1973; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton from 1973 to 1981; Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green from 1981 to 1982; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton from 1982 to 1983; and at St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton from 1983 to 1990. She served as an instructor at the IHM Educational Enrichment Institute in Scranton from 1990 to 1996 and as a receptionist at the IHM Center from 1996 to 1998. From 1998 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Thomas, John and Patrick; and three sisters,Mary Bametzrieder, Rita and Sister Ann Helene Coyne, IHM.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Sister M. Maristella Walsh, IHM

Sister M. Maristella Walsh, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, July 10, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born Constance Mary on November 8, 1925 in New York, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Agnes Quinn Walsh. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1944 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1947 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1950.

She served as a teacher at St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore from 1947 to 1948 and 1980 to 1988; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, N.J., from 1948 to 1954; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, N.Y., from 1954 to 1956; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, N.Y., from 1956 to 1958; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1958 to 1960; St. Ann Elementary School in Devon, Ct., from 1960 to 1969; St. Ambrose Elementary School in Bridgeport, Ct., from 1969 to 1980; St. Stephen Elementary School in New York City from 1988 to 1990; St. Ann Elementary School in New York City from 1990 to 2002. From 2003 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the IHM Spiritual Renewal Center in Cresco.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent, Jr. and a sister, Alberta Ridley.

She is survived by a cousin, Connie McLaughlin of Melrose, MA, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Sister M. Jeanetta Hughes, IHM

Sister M. Jeanetta Hughes, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, June 21, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton. Born on July 27, 1918 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Harry P. and Mary Sweeney Hughes. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1938 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1941 and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1944.

Sister M. Robertus Mullen, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, June 21, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born on November 6, 1924 in Wilkes Barre, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Kathryn Murphy Mullen. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1943 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1946 and her final profession of vows on August 15, 1949.

She served as a teacher at Cathedral Chapel Elementary School in Scranton from 1946 to 1950; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, N.J. from 1950 to 1951; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh from 1951 to 1953; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport from 1953 to 1954; St. Bernardine Elementary School in Baltimore, Md. from 1954 to 1960; Archbishop Neale Elementary School in La Plata, Md. from 1960 to 1964; Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre from 1964 to 1968; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Pittston from 1968 to 1969; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton from 1969 to 1970; St. Charles Elementary School in Sugar Notch from 1970 to 1971; Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn from 1971 to 1974; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley from 1974 to 1982; and at Wyoming Area Catholic Elementary School in Exeter from 1982 to 1984. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert and three sisters, Agnes Mangan, Margaret, and Sister M. Adele, IHM. She is survived by a niece, Jayne Blair of Buck Hill Falls, PA and several nieces and nephews.

Sister M. Hyacinth Serafini, IHM

Sister M. Hyacinth Serafini, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on May 25, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born on August 27, 1919 in Renovo, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Rose Bruno Serafini. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1937 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 2, 1940 and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1943.

She served as a teacher at St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, N.Y. from 1940 to 1944; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills, N.Y. from 1944 to 1952; St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pittsburgh from 1952 to 1957 and 1960 to 1961; Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, N.Y. from 1957 to 1960; St. Patrick High School in Olyphant from 1961 to 1967; St. Rose High School in Carbondale from 1967 to 1973; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay from 1973 to 1974; St. Mary High School in Manhasset, N.Y. from 1974 to 1991. She served on the staff at the Marian Convent in Scranton from 1991 to 1992. She was an administrative assistant at the IHM Center in Scranton from 1992 to 2001. From 2001 to until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Science degree both in education from Marywood College.

She is survived by two sisters, Rose Conti and Sister Andrea, CSMM both of Camp Hill; an aunt, Eleanor Ade of Debary, Fl.; a nephew, Michael Conti of Potomac, Md.; and a niece, Karen Bengston of Avondale.

The funeral will be Wednesday, May 30 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Tuesday, May 29, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Sister M. Susan McMenamin, IHM

Sister M. Susan McMenamin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on May 7, at Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale.

Born on October 29, 1914 in Freeland, she was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Ferry McMenamin. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1932 and made her temporary profession of vows on April 30, 1935 and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1938.

She served as a music teacher at St. Matthew Elementary School in East Stroudsburg from 1935 to 1940; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, N.Y. from 1940 to 1942; St. John High School in Pittston from 1942 to 1945; Sacred Hearts Elementary School in New York, N.Y. from 1945 to 1949; St. Mary High School in Manhasset, N.Y. from 1949 to 1956; Central Catholic High School in Kingston from 1956 to 1966; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, N.Y. from 1966 to 1968; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh from 1968 to 1972; St. Paul Elementary School in Cranston, R.I. from 1972 to 1975; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, N.Y. from 1975 to 1976; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, N.Y. from 1976 to 1988; and at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Mount Holly, N.J. from 1988 to 1993. She served as a prayer minister at Sacred Heart Convent in Mount Holly from 1993 to 1995 and at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Convent in Asbury Park, N.J. from 1995 to 1997. From 1997 to until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Music degree from Marywood College and Master of Arts degree in music education from New York University.

She was preceded in death by five brothers; Reverend John Gerard, CP, Maurice, Hugh, Joseph and Bernard; and five sisters; Mary, Margaret, Sister Clare Marie, IHM, Sister Jean Marie, RSM, and Clare Stringer.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth McMenamin of Scranton and a niece, Margaret McMenamin of Hellertown.

The funeral will be Thursday, May 10, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Wednesday, May 9, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Sister M. Faith Brown, IHM

Sister M. Faith Brown, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on April 17, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born on May 15, 1916 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Andrew A. Brown and Helen D. Jordan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1934 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 3, 1937 and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1940.

She served as a teacher at St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, N.Y. from 1937 to 1942; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, N.J. from 1942 to 1943; Most Holy Rosary High School in Syracuse, N.Y. from 1943 to 1949; St. Ann High School in Scranton from 1949 to 1951; St. John High School in Pittston from 1951 to 1953; St. Patrick High School in Olyphant from 1953 to 1956; St. Rose High School in Carbondale from 1956 to 1958; St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pittsburgh from 1958 to 1968; Immaculata High School in New York, N.Y. from 1969 to 1971; Kingston Catholic High School in Kingston from 1971 to 1973; St. Alphonsus High School in New York, N.Y. from 1976 to 1980; Bishop Hannan High School in Scranton from 1980 to 1982. She was the principal at Holy Rosary High School in Scranton from 1968 to 1969. She served as administrator at the Marian Convent in Scranton from 1973 to 1976. She served as a chaplain at the Crouse Irving Memorial Hospital in Syracuse, N.Y. from 1982 to 1986; and as a pastoral minister at Most Holy Rosary Parish in Syracuse, N.Y. from 1986 to 1991. She served on the staff at the Fricchione Day Care Center at Marywood University from 1999 to 2001. From 2001 to until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree and Master of Arts degree both in English from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert F. Brown.

She is survived by a sister, Kathryn B. Walsh of Dunmore.

The funeral will be Friday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Sister M. Patrice Conlon, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on April 11 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born on January 30, 1922 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late James P. and Bettina Joyce Conlon. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1952 and made her temporary profession of vows on August 3, 1955 and her final profession of vows on August 3, 1958.

She served as a teacher at St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville from 1955 to 1957; St. Rita Elementary School in Baltimore, Md, from 1957 to 1961; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1961 to 1967; Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ, from 1967 to 1968; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh from 1968 to 1970; St. Aloysius Elementary School in Cresson from 1971 to 1972; St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton from 1972 to 1977; St. Paul Elementary School in Cranston, RI, from 1978 to 1981; and at St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY, from 1981 to 1983. She served as a receptionist at Marywood College from 1983 to 1986 and on the staff at the Marian Convent and the IHM Center from 1986 to 1992. From 1992 until 2001, she served as an instructor at the IHM Educational Enrichment Institute in Scranton. From 2001 until the time of her death, she was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received both a bachelor degree in education and a master degree in religious studies from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Marie Walsh, Dorothy Baldere and Lucille Connors; and two brothers, James P. and Robert J.

Surviving are nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 14 at 9:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton followed by interment at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Sister M. Marthine Culhane, IHM

Sister M. Marthine Culhane, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on March 20 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton. Born on February 19, 1917 in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Thomas A. and Martha McMunn Culhane. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1936 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1939 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1942.

She served as a teacher at St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton from 1951 to 1956; Monsignor McHugh Elementary School in Cresco from 1961 to 1967; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley from 1983 to 1985; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton from 1985 to 1988; Nativity Elementary School in Scranton from 1989 to 1994. She was principal at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Susquehanna from 1968 to 1970; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte from 1976 to 1981; St. Leo in Ashley from 1981 to 1982; and at St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca in 1983. She also served in schools in Providence, RI; Coeur d’Alene and Twin Falls, ID; Manhasset and Smithtown, NY; Clinton, MD; and Bridgeport, CT. She was a tutor in Carbondale at the IHM Educational Enrichment Institute, St. Rose Elementary School and Sacred Heart Elementary Center from 1994 to 1999. She was the coordinator at the Marian Convent from 1989 to 1994. She served on the staff at Marian Community Hospital in Carbondale from 1999 to 2001. From 2001 until the time of her death, she served as prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a bachelor degree and a master degree both in education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Margaret Munley, Martha, Elizabeth McDermott, and Sister Therese, IHM; and two brothers, Rev. Thomas, CSC, and Francis.

Surviving are two nieces, Mary Borthwich of New Hope and Alice Marie of Canton, CT; and two nephews, Mike McDermott of Valley Cottage, NY and Patrick McDermott of Woodbury, MN.

The funeral will be Thursday, March 22 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton followed by interment at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Sister Jane Driscoll, IHM

Sister Jane Driscoll, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on February 7, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born on May 1, 1918, in Corning, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Elizabeth Hart Driscoll. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1936 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1939 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1942.

She served as a teacher at St. Ephrem Elementary School, Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1939 to 1943; Cathedral Elementary School, Scranton, from 1943 to 1953; St. Paul High School, Scranton, from 1953 to 1954; Holy Rosary High School, Scranton, from 1954 to 1955; St. Dominic High School, Oyster Bay, N.Y., from 1955 to 1959; St. Alphonsus High School, New York, N.Y., from 1959 to 1963; South Scranton High School, Scranton, from 1963 to 1968; Immaculata High School, New York, N.Y., from 1968 to 1971; St. John High School, Pittston, from 1971 to 1974; and at Most Holy Rosary High School, Syracuse, N.Y., from 1974 to 1978. She served as director of religious education at St. Peter’s in Wellsboro from 1978 to 1984; Communications Office staff member at the IHM Center in Scranton from 1984 to 1986; Catechesis teacher at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Vestal, N.Y., from 1986 to 1988; Librarian at Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre from 1988 to 1991; Assistant in the IHM Art Studio in Scranton from 1991 to 1997; and as Occupational Therapy staff member at the Marian Convent in Scranton from 1997 to 2000. From 2000 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

She received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in education and a master’s degree in religious education all from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Driscoll Brooder.

She is survived by two nieces, Jane Leisenring of Painted Post, N.Y. and Kay Brooder of Corning, N.Y.; and a nephew, Robert Brooder of Cary, N.C.

The funeral will be Saturday, February 10, at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Sister M. Evangelista Lipple, IHM

Sister M. Evangelista Lipple, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on February 5, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

Born on July 17, 1915, in Altoona, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Caroline O’Connor Lipple. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1935 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 2, 1938 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1941.

She served as a teacher at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore from 1938 to 1941; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, Md., from 1941 to 1945; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler from 1945 to 1959; St. Bernardine Elementary School in Baltimore, Md, from 1959 to 1964; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale from 1964 to 1971; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, N.Y., from 1971 to 1984; and at Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green from 1984 to 1997. From 1997 to 2002 she was an assistant in the IHM Art Studio in Scranton. From 2002 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

She received a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree both in education from Marywood College. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Catherine Lipple and two brothers, John and Paul. She is survived by a sister, Margaret Callahan of Springfield, Va, and a brother, Joseph of Hollidaysburg, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, February 9, at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Thursday, February 8, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
