Sister M. Helaine O'Dea, IHM

Sister M. Helaine O’Dea, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on October 14, 1916 in New York, NY. She was the daughter of the late James and Ellen Hanrahan O’Dea. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1935 and made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1937 and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1940. She received a bachelor of arts degree and a master of science degree both in education from Marywood College.

Sister Helaine was an educator most of her religious life. She served in schools in Connecticut, New York, and Pennsylvania including, Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton from 1937 to 1940; St. Ignatius Parish in Kingston from 1940 to 1941; St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, NY, from 1941 to 1944; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton from 1944 to 1948; St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY, from 1948 to 1954; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY, from 1966 to 1968; Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg from 1968 to 1972; Bishop Klonowski High School in Scranton from 1972 to 1980; and at Maria Regina Diocesan High School in Uniondale, NY, from 1983 to 1984. She was a catechist at St. Ignatius Parish in Kingston from 1940 to 1941 and at St. Ann Parish in Devon, CT, from 1954 to 1965.

She served as principal at St. Ann School in Devon, CT, from 1954 to 1965 and at St. Rosalia Elementary School in Pittsburgh from 1965 to 1966.

She also served as secretary in several institutions including Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in New York, NY, from 1980 to 1983; St. Mary High School in Manhasset, NY, from 1984 to 1999 and at Our Lady of Grace Montessori School and Center in Manhasset, NY, from 1999 to 2006. From 2006 to 2008, Sister Helaine was a volunteer at Highfield Gardens Care Center of Great Neck in Great Neck, NY. From January until the time of her death, she was a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James.

She is survived by a brother, Michael, of New York, NY; two sisters, Helen Mullen of Wynnewood, PA, and Mary Cryan of Fayetteville, NY; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, April 21, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Sunday, April 20, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Sister M. Aloisa McHugh, IHM

Sister M. Aloisa McHugh, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, April 11, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on August 12, 1907 in Olyphant, PA. She was the daughter of the late Anthony and Bridget McDonnell McHugh. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1934 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 3, 1937 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1941. She received a bachelor of science degree in education from Marywood College.

Sister Aloisa was an elementary teacher all of her religious life. From 1937 to 1987 she served in schools in Rhode Island, New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania: St. Rita Elementary School in Baltimore, Md, from 1937 to 1940 and 1969 to 1970; St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY, from 1940 to 1942; St. Paul Elementary School in Cranston, RI, from 1942 to 1945; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter from 1945 to 1948; St. Mary Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, Md, from 1948 to 1955; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY, from 1955 to 1956; Archbishop Neale School in La Plata, Md, from 1956 to 1962; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Silver Spring, Md, from 1962 to 1969 and 1983 to 1987; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton from 1970 to 1974; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton from 1974 to 1977; Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green from 1981 to 1982; and as a librarian at Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton from 1982 to 1983.

From 1987 to 1996, Sister Aloisa engaged in the ministry of prayer at the St. John the Evangelist Convent in Silver Spring, Md. From 1996 until the time of her death she was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Aloysius, Edward, and Patrick; and two sisters, Helen Haggerty and Mary Brink.

She is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, April 16, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Tuesday, April 15, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Sister Anne Pickard, IHM

Sister Anne Pickard, IHM, formerly known as Sister M. St. Gerald, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, April 6, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on April 12, 1918 in Archbald, PA. She was the daughter of the late James E. and Anna G. Kearney Pickard. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1944 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1947 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1950. She received a bachelor of arts degree and a master of science degree both in education from Marywood College.

Sister Anne was an elementary teacher and a religious educator. From 1947 to 1972 she served in schools in Rhode Island, New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania: St. Thomas School in Providence, RI; Sacred Hearts School in New York, NY and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs School in Forest Hills, NY; St. Bernardine School and St. Rita School in Baltimore, MD; and Cathedral School and Immaculate Conception School in Scranton, PA. From 1972 to 1988, Sister Anne ministered as a director of religious education in response to a need for parish catechetical formation. She served in this capacity at St. Raymond Parish in East Rockaway, NY, St. John the Evangelist Parish in Binghamton, NY and Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Vestal, NY.

From 1988 to 1990, Sister Anne was the director of activities at the Marian Convent. While in pre-retirement from 1990 to 2002, she continued in internal congregational service as a member of the support staff at the IHM Center. From 2002 until the time of her death, Sister Anne engaged in the ministry of prayer at the IHM Center, the Marian Convent and at Our Lady of Peace Residence.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Joseph, Thomas, John, Gerald and James; and two sisters, Margaret Ratchford and Mary P. Munley; and a niece, Sister Joanne Pickard, IHM.

She is survived by a brother, Robert of Escondido, CA; several nephews and nieces including Sister Anne Munley, IHM, of Scranton; and grandnieces and grandnephews.

The funeral will be Friday, April 11, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Rev. William B. Pickard, a cousin, will concelebrate and serve as homilist. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Thursday, April 10, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Sister M. Marita Gill, IHM

Sister M. Marita Gill, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, April 3, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.

She was born on August 6, 1915 in Wilkes Barre, PA. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret Gilroy Gill. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1936 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1939 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1942.

Sister Marita was a teacher. For most of her life she taught Latin and served as a guidance counselor in high schools in the Scranton area. She served at Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton from 1939 to 1943; St. Paul High School in Scranton from 1943 to 1954; Kingston Catholic High School in Kingston from 1954 to 1961; St. Rosalia High School in Pittsburgh from 1967 to 1971; Bishop Hannan High School in Scranton from 1971 to 1976; Bishop O’Hara High School in Dunmore from 1976 to 1978; Seton Catholic High School in Pittston from 1978 to 1992. From 1992 to 1996, Sister was a prayer minister at St. Rocco’s in Pittston.

Sister Marita served as principal at St. Patrick High School in Scranton from 1961 to 1967. While principal she also taught Latin and French at St. Patrick's. From 1997 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a bachelor of arts degree in Latin and French from Marywood College and a master of arts degree in Latin from Catholic University.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Dr. John, Francis, Thomas and Rev. Nicholas, CP; aunts, Mother Marcella, IHM, Sister Ricarda, IHM, Sister Madalena Gilroy, IHM, Sister Ethelbert Gilroy, IHM; and an uncle, Rev. Leo Gilroy.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, April 8, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Monday, April 7, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

Sister M. Paula Baier, IHM

Sister M. Paula Baier, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on August 26, 1916 in Nisbet, PA. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Rebecca Stopper Baier. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1933 and made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1937 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1940.

Sister Paula was a teacher and served at the following schools: Mother of Mercy Elementary School in Washington, NC, from 1937 to 1941; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh from 1941 to 1947 and 1967 to 1969; St. Mary Elementary School in Goldsboro, NC, from 1947 to 1950; St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler from 1950 to 1955; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter from 1955 to 1956; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale from 1956 to 1963; Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, NY, from 1963 to 1964; St. Ann Elementary School in Nyack, NY, from 1964 to 1967; St. Basil Elementary School in Dushore from 1969 to 1970; St. Paul Elementary School in New Bern, NC, from 1970 to 1975 and 1983 to 1984; St. Clare Elementary School in Scranton from 1975 to 1976; Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre from 1976 to 1978; and at St. Ambrose Elementary School in Bridgeport, CT, from 1978 to 1983.

From 1984 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor degree in education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Charles, Reverend Paul, Edmund, Norbert and Robert; and five sisters, Frances Lucasi, Edith Bower, Mary Stopper, Marcella McCaslin and Rose Deitrick.

She is survived by a sister, Amelia Triosi of Williamsport; a brother, Joseph, of Johnson City, NY; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, March 10, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Sister M. Ina Kenney, IHM

Sister M. Ina Kenney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, March 3, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on January 24, 1911 in Pittsburgh. She was the daughter of the late Francis Louis and Anne Alphonse Carey Kenney. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 24, 1928 and made her temporary profession of vows on April 14, 1931 and her final profession of vows on August 1, 1934.

Sister Ina was a music and art teacher and served at the following schools: St. Mary Elementary School in Patton from 1931 to 1932; St. Paul Elementary School in Edgewood, RI, from 1932 to 1941; IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID, from 1941 to 1944; Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna from 1944 to 1948; South Scranton Catholic High School in Scranton from 1948 to 1950; St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pittsburgh from 1950 to 1959; Cathedral High School in Scranton from 1959 to 1963; St. Patrick Elementary and High Schools in Scranton from 1963 to 1967; Little Flower Elementary School in Bethesda, Md., from 1967 to 1971 and 1979 to 1981; IHM Schools in N.C. from 1971 to 1972; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, Md., from 1972 to 1974; St. Rita Elementary School in Baltimore, Md., from 1974 to 1977; St. Mary Elementary and High Schools in Manhasset, N.Y., from 1978 to 1979.
For twenty years Sister Ina served on the faculty of the music department at Marywood College teaching music during summer sessions. She was an art and occupational therapist at the Marian Convent in Scranton from 1981 to 2004. From 2004 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Music degree from Marywood College and a Master of Music Education degree from De Paul University.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Francis L.

She is survived by a brother, Edward C. and his wife, Joan; a sister-in-law, Eleanore; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, March 7, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Sister Marie Rooney, IHM

Sister Marie Rooney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on September 25, 1913 in Wilkes Barre. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Mary E. Loughney Rooney. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1936 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1939 and her final profession of vows on August 3, 1942.

Sister Marie served on the faculty in the Home Economics Department at Marywood College from 1943 to 1981. She also served as a teacher at St. Patrick Elementary School in Oneida, N.Y., from 1939 to 1941; St. Peter of Alcantara in Port Washington, N.Y., from 1941 to 1942; and at Our Lady Queen of Martyrs in Forest Hills, N.Y., from 1942 to 1943. She was a seamstress at the IHM Center in Scranton from 1981 to 1984. From 1984 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Marywood College and a Master of Arts degree from Columbia University.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Evelyn Catherine, and a brother, William.

She is survived by two sisters, Sister Wilma, IHM, of Scranton and Peggy Ronky of Reading; and a brother, Thomas of Wilkes Barre; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, March 5, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Sister Patricia Ann Matthews, IHM

Sister Patricia Ann Matthews, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton. She was formerly known as Sister M. Theodosia.

She was born on March 10, 1940, in Scranton, the daughter of the late Charles R. and Carmeada Rowland Matthews. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1960, and made her temporary profession of vows on June 26, 1963, and her final profession of vows on June 26, 1968.

During her first years in the IHM Congregation, she served as a high school teacher at Bishop Guilfoyle High School in Altoona from 1965 to 1966; and at St. Mary High School in Manhasset, N.Y., from 1966 to 1968.

She attended Douglas College at Rutgers University prior to entering the convent. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in social science from Marywood College and a Master of Arts degree in political science from St. John’s University.

After earning her doctoral degree in American Government from St. John’s University, Sister Patricia served Marywood University for more than 35 years. She began her career at Marywood as a political science instructor. She was later named chairperson of both the undergraduate and graduate departments of social sciences; dean of the Undergraduate School; and, from 1986 to 2006, vice president for academic affairs.

During her faithful service, she guided the academic affairs division through significant advancements and changes. She positioned the Marywood library to be among the first in the region to automate. She was also instrumental in the formation of two doctoral degree programs and she played a lead role in the reorganization of Marywood from a college to a university in 1997 and the subsequent restructuring of the university into four distinct colleges in 2003.

In 2001, Sister Patricia was named chief academic officer of the year by the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC), after being nominated and selected by the chief academic officers of the 490 institutions represented by the CIC.

Her belief that each person can make a difference formed her pedagogy as a teacher. Her passion for justice, her wisdom and faith, and her practice of effective problem solving played an integral role in the transformation of Marywood from a liberal arts women’s college to a comprehensive coeducational university and a premier Catholic institution of higher learning.

She was a widely respected educator, scholar, consultant, and lecturer on higher education, including teaching, academic administration, professional development, gender issues, outcome assessment, and strategic planning.

Since her retirement as vice president of academic affairs in 2006, she continued to serve Marywood University as assistant to the president for Special Projects.

During the past year of her declining health until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She is survived by a sister, Carmeada Gogal and husband, John, of Lebanon, N.J.; and three brothers, Rowland of Newfoundland, Kirk and wife, Joan, of Germantown, Tenn., and Lee C. of Clinton, N.J; nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her faithful friend, Sister Gail Cabral, IHM, of Scranton.

The funeral will be Saturday, February 23 at 9:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the IHM Center, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Chapel, Swartz Center for Spiritual Life, on the campus of Marywood University, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton on Friday, February 22, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. A prayer service will be held at 4:30 p.m. during the wake service.

Sister M. Jeremy Hornung, IHM

Sister M. Jeremy Hornung, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Mercy Hospital in Scranton.

She was born on February 7, 1929 in Camden, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Anne McCarthy Hornung. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 7, 1950 and made her temporary profession of vows on August 2, 1953 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1956.

Sister Jeremy served on the faculty in the Music Department at Marywood College from 1959 to 1983. She also served as a music teacher at St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1953 to 1956; St. Mary Elementary School and High School in Manhasset, N.Y., from 1956 to 1959; St. Ambrose Elementary School and Parish in Bridgeport, Conn., from 1990 to 1996; and at St. Rose Intermediate Center in Carbondale from 1996 to 2001. From 2001 to 2006 she was a piano instructor at St. Clare School in Scranton and from 2006 to 2007 she taught private music lessons at the IHM Center in Scranton. From 2007 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Music degree from Marywood College and a Master of Music degree from the University of Notre Dame.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Howard.

She is survived by a sister, Alice Foster of Bushnell, FL., sister-in-law, Louise Hornung of Mulberry, FL.; ten nieces and nephews and twenty grand nieces and grand nephews.

The funeral will be Wednesday, February 20, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Tuesday, February 19, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Sister M. deSales Williams, IHM

Sister M. deSales Williams, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on May 10, 1926 in Dunmore. She was the daughter of the late John R. and Loretta Walsh Williams. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1943 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1946 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1949.

She served as a teacher at Sacred Heart Elementary School in La Plata, Md., from 1946 to 1952; St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg from 1952 to 1955; St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, Del., from 1955 to 1956; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, N.Y., from 1956 to 1962; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald from 1976 to 1978; Holy Name of Jesus Elementary School in Forty Fort from 1979 to 1980; St. John the Baptist Elementary School in Pittsburgh from 1980 to 1987; and at Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton from 1987 to 1993. She served as principal of the following schools: St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, Md., from 1962 to 1966; St. Raymond Elementary School in East Rockaway, N.Y., from 1966 to 1967; Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn from 1967 to 1973; St. Matthew Elementary School in East Stroudsburg from 1973 to 1976; and at St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport from 1993 to 2003. From 2003 to 2007 she was the Liturgy Coordinator for School Liturgies at Marian Catholic Interparochial School in Scranton. From 2007 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Marywood College and a Master of Arts degree in education from Villanova University.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald J. and John R.; and two sisters, Ruth Lorett Breznikar and Ann E. Biglin.

She is survived by a sister, Bernice Williams Murray of Scranton; sister-in-law, Kieran Williams of Dunmore; brother-in-law, Anton Breznikar of Scranton; brother-in-law, James Biglin of Scranton; and many nieces and nephews.

For those planning to attend the funeral, it will be Wednesday, January 23, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the IHM Center, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue on Tuesday, January 22, between 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

Sister M. Phyllis McCarty, IHM

Sister M. Phyllis McCarty, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, January 17, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She was born on February 18, 1922 in Brooklyn, N.Y. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Louise J. Botsford McCarty. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1939 and made her temporary profession of vows on May 8, 1942 and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1945.

She served as a teacher at St. Mary Elementary School in North Pittston from 1942 to 1945; St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, Del., from 1945 to 1952; Holy Trinity Elementary School in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., from 1952 to 1953; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, N.Y., from 1953 to 1956; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, N.Y., from 1956 to 1960; St. Paul High School in Scranton from 1960 to 1963; Bishop Guilfoyle High School in Altoona from 1963 to 1964; St. Leo High School in Ashley from 1964 to 1968; St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pittsburgh from 1968 to 1970; St. Dominic High School in Oyster Bay, N.Y., from 1970 to 1978; Maria Regina Diocesan High School in Undiondale, N.Y., from 1978 to 1984; and at Bishop Hoban High School in Wilkes Barre from 1984 to 2000. She served on the staff at the Marian Convent in Scranton from 2000 to 2001. From 2001 until the time of her death she served as a prayer minister at the IHM Center, Marian Convent and Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education and a Master of Science degree in Theology both from Marywood College and a Master of Arts degree in History from Villanova University.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Donald; and a nephew, Eugene Howard.

She is survived by two sisters, Patricia Howard of Livingston, N.J.; Kathryn Lawrence of Virginia Beach, VA.; a brother, Robert and sister-in-law, Jill, both of Clarks Summit; and nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, January 21, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 2300 Adams Avenue in Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Sunday, January 20, between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
