All About Splash:
Now in its 8th year, Summer Splash is a two-week arts program
for underserved youth between the ages of 5-11 in Scranton’s
housing developments, offering classes in dance, drama, music,
photography, sign language, physical activity, art, crafts,
games, nutrition and hygiene and more.
Young people, teachers and Catholic sisters,
work together to provide a free experience of the arts for children
who would not otherwise have such an opportunity. Volunteers
share their gifts and give personalized attention to participants
to build positive relationships while tapping into their creative
energy to help them channel that activity in nonviolent ways
in their communities.
In the end we hope to see creative, nonviolent,
artistic expression; newly built trust relationships with positive
role models (that’s you!); and increased levels of self-esteem
and confidence in all participants.

- read what last year's Splashers had to say.
“Fun comes first.” – Chris (participant)
“I have worked with Summer Splash for 4 years. This is
my 3rd year at this site, and I love the bonds made with each
child.” – Brianna (teen volunteer)
“Even though you’re working with little kids you
can learn a lot from them.” – Candice (teen volunteer)
“I would definitely recommend Summer Splash to my friends
because it’s a good experience to interact with children
whose upbringing is so different from our own. It’s also
a way to earn our service hours in a way that really matters.”
– Christa (teen volunteer)
“I see reluctant children open up, smile, and in general
bask in the attention and stimulation they receive. Maybe one
of the most apparent effects Splash has is that the children
return year after year.” – Ann (teacher)
“My children had fun. They learned so many new things.”
– Donna (parent)
Summer Splash is made possible by the Collaborative
Ministry Group, Margaret Briggs Foundation, Scranton
Area Foundation, the Pennsylvania
Council on the Arts and through generous volunteers like
you.
