Friends of the Poor is an organization based in Scranton,
Pennsylvania that seeks to ease the burden of living in
poverty and enhance the quality of life for all who live
in the low-income community. |
| Some
of the activities of the organization include: |
| -providing
emergency food (approximately 2500 food "orders" per year) |
| -distributing
used clothing to a minimum of 20 persons daily |
| -providing
used furniture (to 500 families per year) |
| -encouraging
preventative healthcare |
| -distributing
healthcare information |
| -assisting
in community health projects |
Sr.
Adrian Barrett, IHM, CEO of the Friends of the Poor
is employed by the Scranton Housing Authority as its community
service coordinator. Scranton Housing Authority provides
free space for the Friends of the Poor office as well
as some administrative support. Ninety-eight percent of
the Friends of the Poor budget is used for direct services.
