Sisters in initial formation and their directresses from the Oblate Sisters of Providence, and Monroe, Immaculata, and Scranton IHM congregations gathered the weekend of June 27-29, 2003 in Scranton for the Tri-IHM/Oblate formation gathering.

The gathering included opportunities to share their congregations' common stories, to pray, and to visit historical sites in the area important to the founding stories.

Using slides, storytelling, and prayerr, Sr. Eileen Coleman shared with the group of 30 sisters her experiences during her recent trip to Haiti.

The group traveled to Vestal, NY where Sr. Robert Mary Murphy and Mary Ann Remus along with several IHM Associates, greeted the guests and provided lunch.

The group proceeded from Vestal to Sr. Joseph's, PA, where liturgy was celebrated at St. Mary's, followed by a visit to the site of the convent in which Theresa Maxis Duchemin lived in 1859.

The group then traveled to Susquehanna, PA where the sisters visited graves of IHM sisters buried there.

At each historical site, prayer was offered in thanksgiving for the sisters who had gone before and prepared the way for future generations of women religious.

At the IHM Center, Sr. Cor Immaculatum Heffernan explained the creation of her bronze statue of Theresa Maxis Duchemin. She then guided a tour to the site of the motherhouse and the Marywood University rotunda.

The IHM Center staff provided the visitors with meals and housing.

The weekend gathering concluded with liturgy in the IHM Center chapel.

Future gatherings of sisters in formation in all four congregations are being planned at each motherhouse.
