Scripture:
Isaiah 41:13-20; Matthew 11:11-15
Reflection:
"From the time of John the Baptist until now, violent
people have been trying to take over the kingdom of heaven by
force." - Matthew 11:12
I cannot help but reflect on the violence the world has experienced
this year. Is it something new? Or have we gotten used to it?
Maybe we feel it really doesn't touch our lives…but it
does.
We would all hope by now that human beings would have acquired
a less primitive way of relating to each other. Groups like
the KKK and Neo-Nazis incite and promote violence in our society.
The antithesis of violence is peace, and peace needs to be knit
with justice.
How many times have we been silent in the face of injustice
just to keep "peace"? Maybe we say, "it is not
our business," or maybe we are terrified of the consequences
of speaking out. We know that the Son of God was put to death
for speaking out against injustice. But let us remember God's
promise to us as spoken through the prophet Isaiah, "For
I am the Lord your God who grasps your right hand. Fear not,
I will help you."
Suggested
Action:
Let us make it our business to speak out for justice. Let us
be peacemakers today.
