| Third
Sunday of Advent
December 14, 2003
Scripture:
Zephaniah 3:14-18A; Philippians 4:4-7; Luke 3:10-18
Reflection:
"For the Lord,
your God, has arrived to live among you." - Zephaniah 3:17
Today, we light
our third candle in celebration of this Third Sunday of Advent.
With great joy, we look to our God, Emmanuel, who is the light
of the world - the One who shines through the darkness - of
our world, of our lives, and of these short days. God is with
us.
Many themes flow
through today's readings - joy, hope, anticipation, peace, generosity,
thanksgiving and honesty. Much time could be spent reflecting
on any one of these themes. What is God saying to us? What is
God asking of us? What can we do today?
As we approach the
great feast of Christmas, let us listen to the Word of God and
follow the example of Jesus, the Prince of Peace. Knowing Jesus
can bring us to a deep interior peace - a peace that will permeate
our entire lives, a peace that no one can take from us, a peace
that will move us beyond words into action.
Suggested
Action:
After praying today's readings, reflect on how you are "living
out" one or more of the themes of these readings. What
else can be done by you to help these themes become a reality
in today's world?
