O Flower of Jesse's Stem!
Scripture:
Judges 13:2-7, 24-25A; Luke 1:5-25
Reflection:
"In
these days the Lord is acting in my behalf; he has seen fit
to remove my reproach among men." -Luke 1:25
Women of
biblical times looked upon their barrenness as an occasion of
blame or disgrace. Imagine a married couple who desperately
wanted children and prayed constantly for this favor. Going
into old age and being childless was a great disappointment
for Zachariah and Elizabeth. By this time in their lives, both
probably accepted their state of life. Imagine their surprise
and disbelief when told that Elizabeth would conceive a child.
Have you ever prayed for something over a long
period of time? As time went on you probably began to give up
and accept the situation. Then at some later date it all came
together as a surprise.
Suggested
Action:
Pray for some childless couple and encourage them in their prayer
for each other.
