O Key of David, Royal Power of Israel!
Scripture:
Isaiah
7:10-14; Luke 1:26-38
Reflection:
The angel
Gabriel announces to Mary that she is to be the Mother of Jesus.
Mary responds, "Let it be done to me as you say."
In today's
gospel, we are told that when the angel appeared to Mary, she
was somewhat confused and bewildered. But the angel assured
her that she need not be afraid, for God chose her for this
role and nothing is impossible with God. To receive such an
overwhelming request was not what Mary expected but since her
life was filled with faith and trust in God, she came to accept
what God was asking of her. Being a young maiden she had to
wonder how she would be able to handle this great responsibility.
This was an awesome and soul-filled gift for her and she would
accept it gracefully, knowing that God would be with her through
it all.
We too
are invited by God with special requests that need to be carried
out. How do we listen to God and how do we respond? Are we willing
to accept the challenge? Like Mary, we should be happy that
God trusts us enough to ask these special favors and respond,
"yes, whatever is your will."
Suggested
Action:
Take Mary as our model and advocate. Recite and meditate on
Mary's Magnificat often. Thank Mary for saying yes, making it
possible for us to carry out God's plans.
