| Feast
of John, Apostle, Evangelist
December 27, 2003
Scripture:
1 John 1:1-4; John 20:2-8
Reflection:
"We write this to fulfill our joy."
- 1 John 1:4
Here we are two days after Christmas with a
gospel account of the resurrection and a first reading that
speaks of the joy of sharing the good news. What is the good
news to which John bears witness? It is not simply the incarnation
of Jesus, a baby born on Christmas. It is the incarnation of
the life, death and resurrection of Christ within each of us.
Sharing this binds us to one another and to God. Our inclination
is to keep this incarnation to ourselves… to keep it between
God and me. Today's readings challenge us to find joy in sharing
with one another not just our experience of the resurrection
but our life and death with Christ. In this sharing we will
come to know more deeply the incarnation of the Word who is
life.
Suggested
Action:
Take time to reflect on and possibly share with one other person
a personal incarnation of the life, death and resurrection of
Christ in your life.
