Wednesday of the First Week of Advent
December 3, 2003

Scripture: Isaiah 25:6-10A; Matthew 15:29-37

Reflection:

The Gospel today tells of the compassionate Jesus satisfying the physical hunger of the people. In this gospel story we see the foreshadowing of the Eucharist.

As we celebrate the Eucharist each day, we have this same compassionate Jesus here to help us. We bring not only our physical needs but also our spiritual needs to him. As divinity mingles with our humanity, he draws us ever closer to himself.

As Jesus fed the people for strength for their journey home, so too, he feeds us with his body and blood to strengthen us for our journey home - our life journey to heaven.

In this season of gift giving, we ponder anew this our greatest gift.

Suggested Action:
Offer fervent thanks each day to Jesus for this awesome gift of the Eucharist.
