Within the Octave of Christmas
December 31, 2003
Scripture:
1 John 2:18-21; John 1:1-18
Reflection:
Light,
truth, word are all images we can be so familiar with that we
can sometimes forget the richness buried beneath the surface.
These words are all applied to Christ by St. John. The Church
chooses to put the readings together today, one focusing on
truth and the other focusing on word and light.
The deeper
meaning behind each of these words can call each of us to new
life, new vision, new meaning, new call to conversion. How open
am I to this? How do I let this word of God, Jesus, affect my
life and actions today? Where in my life today is Jesus asking
me to look with more light? Where is he asking me to look with
his eyes on situations I might not want to change? What truth
about myself or another is he asking me to accept today? What
is his personal call to me today?
Suggested
Action:
Today, remember: no matter where Jesus calls me to recognize
him, he calls me always to remember that he is the initiator.
He is the creator. He it is who makes all things new. I have
but to respond to his love.
