Friday
of the First Week of Advent
December 5, 2003
Scripture:
Isaiah 29:17-24; Matthew 9:27-31
Reflection:
"In
a short time, a very short time..." - Isaiah 29:17
"Are
we almost there?" In the past, we have either been in the
position to ask that question or to respond to it. Like a child
being told that the destination will be reached in a short time,
we anticipate hope being fulfilled. Living in a world of uncertainty,
we ask how long will it be until security and peace replace
the many harmful, anxiety-producing issues in our global community.
Living in a world of uncertainty, we pray in the hope that interior
peace will replace those images of inadequacy, the pains of
ill health, and the emptiness of hopelessness. Wishfully thinking
that, in a short time, hope will be realized, we cling to our
innermost dreams... for the time when all will be well.
The prophet
Isaiah is the prophet of hope to a downtrodden nation. He tells
them to hold on for a short time... the Holy One is near. Mindful
of Isaiah's encouragement, we hold tight to the hope of graces,
blessings, and even miracles fulfilled by the Lord Jesus with
his coming "in a very short time."
Suggested
Action:
On this Friday in Advent, be a source of hope to those you meet.
Look for ways to affirm, encourage, and support one another.
Help others experience hope in this present time. The Messiah,
the long-awaited One, is coming!
