Saturday
of the First Week of Advent
December 6, 2003
Scripture:
Isaiah 30:19-21, 23-26; Matthew 9:35-10:1, 6-8
Reflection:
"He
will give rain for the seed that you sow in the ground and the
wheat that the soil produces will be rich in abundance."
- Isaiah 30:23
Isaiah
reminds us that the people of Israel became rebellious and wandered
from their God and homeland. Did their God abandon them? No.
He is a forgiving God who is ever present to his people. He
promised them a land of prosperity for their needs and thirst.
God's graciousness gifted his people and he continues to gift
us in our day.
Matthew
speaks of the mission of the apostles. Jesus saw his people
as "sheep without a shepherd." He prepared his chosen
twelve and sent them forth with the announcement: "The
reign of God is at hand." Today, 2000 years later, we still
hear the same words. Christ has chosen us to continue the service
and path of the apostles in our ministries. We must care for
the poor, the oppressed, and the suffering. We need to proclaim
the good news to bring forth peace and justice. Like Jesus'
disciples, we must give what we have received as gift.
Suggested
Action:
Today, let us pray for vocations to the religious life and priesthood.
