Second Sunday of Advent
December 7, 2003
Scripture:
Baruch 5:1-9; Philippians 1:4-6, 8-11; Luke 3:1-6
Reflection:
In today's
Gospel reading John was sent forth to prepare the people for
the coming of Jesus. He shouted out, "Turn away from your
sins and be baptized, and God will forgive your sins."
John took his call very seriously and spread this message to
all people in the Jordan Valley. There must have been times
when he felt lonely and fearful but that didn't stop him, he
continued along his journey. Like John we are called to share
the Good News of God's unconditional love and forgiveness with
the people we meet. This can take the simplest form of a smile,
a hello, a kind word or taking the time to listen to someone
share part of his/her story.
A line
that struck me was, "The winding paths must be made straight
and the rough paths smooth." How often does our journey
take some very unexpected twists and turns and they end up becoming
real joys and blessings in our lives.
It is through
the gentle touch of God's guiding hand that we can develop an
intimate relationship with God.
Suggested
Action:
Take time to recognize the twists and turns in your life and
notice how God is present in them.
