Christmas Weekday
January 2, 2004
Scripture:
1
John 2:22-28; John 1:19-28
Reflection:
As we continue this Christmas season, the first
reading challenges us to be "full of courage" and
to keep alive in our hearts the message we have heard from the
beginning.
In this world that changes so rapidly, and encourages
us to embrace whatever comes along, we as Christians can and
should stand firm and have full confidence in choosing Christ.
No matter what type of ministry we are engaged in, or what pressures
we are under in the workplace or with family, we can trust in
the Spirit and reach out to others to help us remain in union
with Christ.
In the second reading, the Jews sent priests
and Levites to question John as to why he is baptizing. John
declares openly, "I am not the Christ, I am not fit to
undo his sandal strap." The priests and Levites were still
puzzled and not sure that John was being truthful.
As Christians we may be totally misunderstood
by those we come in contact with each day, but like John, we
must show by our actions, that we are not the prophet, but true
followers of Christ.
Suggested
Action:
Be open to the message of these readings. Think and pray about
ways in which you can challenge yourself to be "full of
courage" for Christ's sake.
