Feast
of the Epiphany
January 4, 2004
Scripture:
Isaiah
60:1-6; Ephesians 3:2-3A, 5-6; Matthew 2:1-12
Reflection:
In the
readings for today, we become aware of an awesome light coming
from the heavens. The Magi, aware of this prophecy, come from
distant lands seeking this source. From their studies, they
know of and they seek a power beyond themselves, or any king,
ruler or president! It speaks of a profound "happening,"
the coming from afar of kings, angels and shepherds who have
been drawn by this awesome light. The reality of this happening
is the birth of an infant, Christ the King. The prophecies of
old have been fulfilled.
I have
read and reread this passage. There is no dialogue to study
or read, only that the journey was long but necessary. Does
it prompt me to seek out the source and meaning of the light?
Would my faith be the driving force of such a journey? Would
I set out with such assurance? I could just imagine the surprise
of Joseph and Mary as the kings approach the infant child. They
bow and offer gifts, significant gifts for a king! What gifts
am I prepared to present to the King of Kings?
Suggested
Action:
Let us look for the light in our life today, as well as those
who light up our life.
