Tuesday
After the Epiphany of Our Lord
January 6, 2004
Scripture:
1
John 4:7-10; Mark 6:34-44
Reflection:
In today's gospel, Mark tells us Jesus gave
the people food for their souls by his teaching. When the apostles
suggest that the crowds disperse to feed their bodies, Jesus
instructs the apostles to feed the people with the provisions
they have on hand.
When people come to us do we send them away
to fend for themselves as the apostles wanted to do, or do we
provide food for them from whatever resources we have, knowing
with God's help we will have enough?
Today many people do need physical nourishment
but many others need to be nourished spiritually - their souls
and spirits need to be fed. God has blessed us with many spiritual
resources and if we are willing to share what we have, God will
make up for what we lack. In this account from Mark it seems
as though the provisions of bread and fish were from the apostles'
food supply where in John's account, the food was supplied by
someone present in the crowd.
If our resources are not sufficient to accomplish
the work God wants to be done, God will always provide others
who will supplement and help us. All we have been given by God
is meant to be shared. The gift you have been given, give as
gift.
Suggested
Action:
Reflect on how God has blessed you with many talents and graces.
How do you share these gifts with others?
