Friday
After the Epiphany of Our Lord
January 9, 2004
Scripture:
1
John 5:5-13; Luke 5:12-16
Reflection:
In reading
these two passages, we find Jesus teaching about faith and the
power of humble prayer.
From experience
we know that prayer can only be sincere and meaningful if we
believe in God's power and love; and if we act on this belief.
Belief is subsumed in action.
The leper's
belief in the power and love of Jesus culminates in the simple
plea, "Sir, if you want to, you can cure me." Jesus'
love is instantly given: "Of course, I want to! Be cured!"
We know
that Jesus waits for us too. As we search for answers, going
from one diversion of persons and places to another, Jesus waits.
He wants to tell us, as He told the leper, "Be cured!"
Suggested
Action:
Today, show your belief in the power and love of Jesus by praying
with the leper, "Lord, if you want to, you can cure me."
