After the Epiphany of Our Lord
January 5, 2005
Scripture: 1 John 4:11-18; Mark 6:45-52
Reflection:
“Yet if we love one another God dwells in us and his love
is brought to perfection in us.” -1 John 4: 12
The theme song for the television program Joan of Arcadia is
“What if God was one of us... Just a stranger on the bus
trying to make his way home?” This show portrays that
God is one of us. And God appears in the most unlikely places
and faces. God asks Joan to do simple things that have profound
consequences.
Isn’t
that what we believe? God is one of us. “The word became
flesh and dwelt among us.” This is the mystery of the
Incarnation.
In this season of Epiphany we celebrate the manifestation of
God to us. Today God may come to you in surprising ways. Be
open to this wonderful grace. Gerard Manley Hopkins describes
it this way:
“For Christ plays in ten thousand places,
Lovely in limbs, and lovely in eyes not his...”
Suggested Action:
Live your life today, reflecting that God is one of us.
