IHM Immersion Experience 2008, Guatemala

From July 1 to July 20, three IHM Sisters, Betty Bullen, Carol Loughney, and Helene Cooke joined Sister Donna Korba on the first Guatemalan Immersion Experience. The purpose of the experience was to continue the collaboration between the IHM Congregation and the Hermanas, Dominicans de La Anunciata through direct service at the mission site in Chichicastenango and immersion in the culture of the Mayan people within the local religious community of sisters and in the altiplano. The sisters taught English in the Centro Educativo Anunciata, shared community with the resident students and sisters, visited various cultural and religious areas of the altiplano region, spoke with locals about immigration issues, and opened their hearts to a culture and a people different from their own. The experience helped to open hearts and unite spirits in our common quest for peace and justice in our world.
