Easter
Vigil
April 10, 2004
Scripture: Genesis 1:1-2:2; Genesis 22:1-18; Exodus
14:15- 15:1; Isaiah 54:5-14; Isaiah 55:1-11; Baruch 3:9 15,
32-4:4; Ezekiel 36:16-17A, 18 28; Romans 6:3-11; Luke 24:1-12.
Reflection:
“This is the night!” to remember —“all
that is comes from the heart of a loving God, and all of it
is good!” How awesome!
Liturgy’s atmosphere is deeply solemn as we gather to
celebrate the greatest mystery of our salvation. Darkness, silence
and expectation reign. Several Scripture stories paint meaningful
images to live by.
The
story of Abraham “our father in faith” and his son
Issac is a compelling symbol of the sacrifice of God’s
Son for the redemption of the world—the paschal mystery.
The works of the heart…the beautiful blessing concludes
this story drawing a parallel between Abraham and Issac with
God the Father and Jesus. A revered foreshadowing of Jesus’
sacrifice in obedience to his Father’s will—a free
act of love. We celebrate this “holiest of nights,”
singing, Alleluia! Shalom!
Suggested Action:
Notice the beauty in creation entrusted to us by God. Create
light for someone in darkness today. Or, with love and a grateful
heart, sing, “Amazing Grace.” Alleluia!
