Solemnity
of Easter Thursday
April 15, 2004
Scripture:
Acts 3:11-26; Luke 24:35-48
Reflection:
Acts recounts that the Apostles, who before the Resurrection/
Pentecost events were timorous and hesitant to step out in faith
for the sake of Jesus’ name, lost no time in calling on
that sacred name to bring healing to a fellow Jew. The urgency
with which they performed this work of mercy was due, no doubt,
to the fact that they believed Jesus’ return was imminent,
and they must be about the business of the kingdom.
As I ponder this scene, I wonder with how much alacrity and
courage I share my gifts and his name with those in need? Do
I seize opportunities to bring Jesus’ healing love to
those “paralyzed” with fears and doubts?
In Luke’s Gospel, we find that, amidst the turmoil that
churned within the depths of the disciples’ souls, the
embers of hope were rekindled. Now they knew Jesus was alive
and well! And then, suddenly he appears, catching them off guard,
and they are filled with fearful astonishment. I notice the
gentle Christ assuring them that they have nothing to worry
about. While they stand mute and dumbfounded, he simply asks
for something to eat and enjoys the fish offered to him. They
are gifted with his real presence and assured peace of heart!
Can I expect anything less when I am troubled? Will not this
same risen Lord gift me with his peace?
Suggested action:
Today I will quietly call on Jesus to empower and enfold his
peace in all those who are distressed, or in need of healing.
