Third
Sunday of Easter
April 25, 2004
Scripture: Acts
5:27-32, 40B-41; Revelation 5:11-14; John 21:1-19
Reflection:
We find haunting and powerful symbols echoed in all of our readings
today. In the Acts of the Apostles, the disciples are instructed
to teach in Christ’s name even though the Sanhedrin admonished
them not to do so, citing that it is better to obey God than
man.
Our second reading has us listening with countless angels as
they sing their Amen in praise of the Lamb of God.
In the Gospel of John, as Jesus called his disciples to take
a risk, we too must say our Amen. He asks us not to be discouraged
and to remember that we are surrounded by God’s love.
This passage also shows Christ’s connection with nature.
He knew that there were fish to be caught even though his disciples
spent a futile night fishing.
Suggested Action:
Let us proclaim our Amen in praise of the victorious Lamb. Let
us take the risk of trusting the Lord, especially when hope
seems unreasonable. It is the Lord who loves us beyond our belief
and who continues to feed and strengthen us in the Eucharist.
