Thursday
of the Third Week of Easter
April 29, 2004
Scripture:
Acts 8:26-40; John 6:44-51
Reflection:
In Acts we read of Philip spreading the word of God in Samaria
with such great success that rejoicing in that town reached
a fever pitch. Amid all that success and rejoicing, the spirit
of God urged Philip out to a desert route where he came across
an Ethiopian struggling to understand a scripture passage from
Isaiah. He asked Philip if the prophet was speaking of himself
or another. Philip introduced him to Jesus and the man asked
to be baptized. Again Philip went away and left the man rejoicing.
In John’s Gospel we meet Jesus as the bread of life come
down from heaven. He promises that anyone who eats his flesh
will live forever.
Suggested Action:
It is difficult to leave what we do very well and attend to
the urgings of the spirit of God. But what a gift we can be
to someone searching for Jesus and what joy we can bring to
another’s life. In gratitude for the gift of Eucharist,
spend quiet moments today in adoration.
