Saturday
of the Fifth Week of Lent
April 3, 2004
Scripture: Ezekiel 37:21-28; John 11:45-56
Reflection:
Ezekiel’s message from the Lord is a dynamic force, full
of energy and promise, announcing God’s plan of action
for our well being and happiness. With great clarity the road
map to peace and holiness is presented to us. God is determined
that we experience wholeness within ourselves.
So what is our part in all of this? Who does not wish to be
freed of guilt? Who does not desire to be at peace within themselves
and with others? The answer lies in our choices. We need to
say, “OK, Lord, let’s work together.”
In John’s gospel for today, we encounter two types of
people responding to Jesus’ miracle of raising Lazarus
from the dead. The first group responds by putting their faith
in Jesus which affects their well-being. The second reject him,
seek to destroy him and end by destroying themselves. This living
drama between the Lord and human hearts reminds us how respectful
God is of our free will.
The real attitude of God toward us is such that after being
forgiven, cleansed and reconciled, we experience a new warmth
and intimacy in the Father’s faithful promise: “My
dwelling shall be with them. I will be their God and they shall
be my people.” Our “yes” points to the reality
that we are at home with God which makes Easter alive once more!
Suggested Action:
During this holiest of weeks, invite God into your life more
deeply by forgiving someone who has hurt you.
