Scripture: Daniel
13:1-9, 15-17, 19-30, 33-62; John 8:12-20
Reflection:
Parents have a way of communicating to their children that their
behaviors are somehow a reflection of a whole body of morality
learned at home in the context of family. If that were true,
the degree to which we all make good ethical decisions would
be an indication of the impact of our familial culture on the
rest of our lives. In today’s excerpt from the Gospel
of John, Jesus reports to the Pharisees: “I know where
I came from and where I am going.”
This might be a good time to ponder not only our parentage but
also the spiritual roots that have molded our thinking and our
lives. Jesus further reminds the Pharisees that to know him
is to know God. Perhaps the greatest success of our lives would
be that those whom we encounter in the diverse global community
of our world, will see in us the reflection of who we are before
all else, followers of Jesus. They will look at us and say:
“I know where you come from and to whom you belong!”
Suggested Action:
Take time today to phone, write to, or pray for someone in your
family who has been a reflection of God in your life.
