Wednesday
of the First Week of Lent
March 3, 2004
Scripture:
Jonah
3:1-10; Luke 11:29-32
Reflection:
The Lord comes to Jonah and instructs him to preach among the
people of Ninevah and give them a warning of the pending doom
of the Lord. Jonah does as he is commanded and the people of
Ninevah take heed and repent. Because the people turned from
their evil ways, the city of Ninevah is spared by the Lord.
Jesus, in the gospel of Luke, admonishes the people who are
gathered looking for a sign. They still seek a sign and yet
they failed to pay attention to the signs and warnings of Solomon
and Jonah.
How often do we miss the signs? How many times have we failed
to notice the warnings in our path? Are we still waiting for
a sign that calls us to repent and reconcile ourselves with
another?
Now is the time. Lent is a season of repentance and reconciliation.
We are encouraged to take notice, listen, reflect and repent.
Notice the signs that call us to repentance, reflect it in your
heart, and make changes in your life that show reconciliation.
Suggested Action:
Think about how often you have spoken the words “I’m
sorry” and pray about the person who most needs to hear
those words from you. Pray for a sign to know when you need
to make a move towards reconciliation.
