Saturday
of the Third Week of Easter
May 1, 2004
Scripture:
Acts 9:31-42; John 6:60-69
Reflection:
“Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you”… “Tabitha,
stand up.” She opened her eyes, looked at Peter and sat
up.
It was necessary, that in various places, the communities could
see for themselves that God “raises the dead.” Aeneas
was paralyzed for eight years and Tabitha, a woman renowned
for her good works with the poor and various charitable works,
fell ill and died. I am sure, that in her life, Tabitha went
about doing good without counting the cost. It was not until
she died that the widows were able to recognize her charitable
acts. Tabitha was raised to life and many people believe in
the Lord because of it.
Recently I have read Mitch Albom’s book The Five People
You Meet in Heaven. Eddie, the principal character dies in an
accident. One by one, he meets five people who explain to him
the reason why things happened to him in life that he did not
understand. At the end he was able to comprehend that the insignificant
acts he performed touched more people than he ever imagined.
Finally, when he saw God, he heard God say one word, “Home.”
Suggested Action:
When you feel that what you are doing is of little worth, remember,
we will know only at the final hour the significance of our
earthly endeavors.
