Sunday of Easter

Scripture: Acts 15:1-2, 22-29; John 14:23-29
Reflection:
The beginning of Chapter 15 of Acts calls our attention to the
controversy between some of the brothers and Paul and Barnabas
concerning circumcision. After choosing representatives, “…the
apostles and presbyters through Judas and Silas conveyed the
message: ‘It is the decision of the Holy Spirit, and ours
too, not to lay on you any burden beyond that which is strictly
necessary.’”
As each one of us knows, daily life challenges us with its burdens.
Depending on various factors, we walk each day in hope and love
and peace. Those inspiring words of Jesus fill our hearts: “Do
not be distressed or fearful.”
Sometimes, however, we do feel overwhelmed. Anxieties and worries
sap our strength and resolve, and our courage waivers. Then
we need to call upon our deep trust in Jesus and heed the invitation
he offers us in John, verse 31: “Come, then! Let us be
on our way.”
Suggested Action:
Meditate today from time to time on the words of Jesus: “My
yoke is sweet and my burden light.” Let us walk in the
peace of Christ.
