Seventh
Sunday of Easter
May 23, 2004
Scripture: Acts 7:55-60; Revelation 22:12-14, 16-17,
20; John 17:20-26
Reflection:
By his words, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them,”
Stephen was following the example of Christ. The person who
follows Christ completely will find strength to do the seemingly
impossible.
In the second reading Jesus sent an angel to say he was coming
soon and he spoke of the reward to be given each person as his
conduct deserved.
Jesus’ last discourse to his disciples has a prayer for
all believers: “I pray also for those who will believe
in me through their word, that all may be one…”
These words should be especially precious to us – for
it is Jesus’ prayer for us. Jesus prayed for a unity of
love – a unity in which people love each other because
they love him.
Jesus prayed that his disciples would behold the glory he had
in the Trinity, before the foundation of the world – and
this is what he desires for us – those who come to know
him through their preaching. The cross and Jesus’ perfect
obedience to his father’s will were also his glory. We,
too, find the real glory of life in doing God’s will.
As with Christ, it is our glory when others see in us the reflection
of God.
Suggested Action:
Do a kind act for someone today because you love God.
