Saturday
of the Seventh Week of Easter
May 29, 2004
Scripture: Acts
28:16-20, 30-31; John 21:20-25
Reflection:
Jesus has a wonderful way of speaking to people - especially
His close friends. He never minces words as is clear from today’s
gospel.
Peter has just had a very profound faith experience, “Lord,
you know everything, You know that I love You,” but he
is so easily distracted! Walking with Jesus, he notices John
following them and he immediately inquires: “Lord, what
about him?” Jesus responds, “What business is that
of yours? Your business is to follow me!” Quite clear
and very much to the point!
The message is as profound today as it was two thousand years
ago. Imagine the peace that would prevail if we would just:
- Curb our curiosity
- Relinquish our meddling
- Quit probing, questioning, and gossiping about the actions
of others.
On a small scale, it would bless us with deep peace of mind,
and it would enable us to really focus on the business of following
Jesus. If a multitude of people listened, heeded and focused
on the “business” they should be about, they would
be well on the road to world peace!
Let’s make up our minds to start today!
Suggested Action:
Curb, relinquish and quit! Follow the path of peace and share
it with those you meet today.
