Saturday
of the Fourth Week of Easter
May 8, 2004
Scripture: Acts 13:44-52; John 14:7-14
Reflection:
In Acts, great crowds in Antioch gathered to hear the word of
the Lord, however, some were filled with jealousy and insulted
Paul and Barnabas. They expelled Paul and Barnabas from the
territory and as they departed they shook the dust from their
feet in protest and proceeded to Iconium. “The disciples
were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.”
We may have experienced the frustration of Paul and Barnabas
in our efforts to spread the Word of God. Our words seem to
fall on deaf ears. We need not be disheartened but continue
to be joyful and the Holy Spirit will guide us to those who
will be open and welcome the word of God.
In the second reading, Philip requests a vision of the Father.
Jesus replies, “Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.”
Jesus and the Father are one. “The Father who dwells in
me is doing his works.” If we make our home in Jesus,
and let him dwell in our hearts, we will be enabled to touch
many people as he did.
Suggested Action:
Pray for a joyful heart. Begin each day saying: ‘This
is the day which the Lord has made; I shall rejoice and be glad
in it.’ Share joy with a smile, a sincere compliment,
a thank-you, a cheerful countenance, a helping hand, a sympathetic
ear, a forgiving heart, and other ways that will come to mind.
