Solemnity
of Easter Friday
April 1, 2005
Scripture: Acts 4:1-12; John 21:1-14
Reflection:
In the reading from Acts, we learn that it is in the name of Jesus
Christ and only his name that we can be saved. In one of the most
touching expressions of friendship and love, John presents us
with a very human act of hospitality on the part of Jesus - he
makes breakfast. In this account of Jesus’ resurrection
appearance you can easily close your eyes and imagine yourself
with Jesus and his friends on the beach at the first light of
day. Notice that, “none of the disciples was bold enough
to ask, ‘Who are you?’”
Recall that John begins his Gospel with, “In the beginning
was the Word: the Word was with God and the Word was God.”
The Prologue of John’s Gospel proclaimed at the Christmas
Mass during the day and again on the last day of the year, December
31 echoes throughout the Easter Resurrection stories.
Suggested Action:
Take the time to reflect on both John 1:1-19 and 21:1-14. Ask
God to show you where the Word is leading you in your daily life.
