Scripture: Acts
2:14, 22-23,1 Peter 1:17-21, Luke 24:13-35
Reflection:
In the readings of today, we hear much of Peter, the fisherman,
called by Christ to be an Apostle. Christ asked Peter: “Who
do you say I am?” He responded: “You are the Messiah,
the Son of God.” Jesus replied: “No man has ever revealed
this to you, but my Heavenly Father. You are Rock and on this
Rock I will build my Church. I will entrust to you the Keys of
Heaven.”
How was Peter different from the other Apostles? Was he not weak
at times? Peter, who walked on the water, had to call for Jesus
to save him - was he trusting? Peter, who slept as Jesus agonized
in the Garden - did he have compassion? Peter denied Christ thrice
as Jesus foretold that this would happen. Jesus recognized weakness,
yet He appeared to Peter after His Resurrection, forgiving and
loving.
When the Holy Spirit descended - wind, tongues of fire, foreign
tongues - there was confusion among many disciples, who did not
understand what was taking place. They were dumbfounded. Peter
was gifted. He called the people to “listen to him.”
He spoke eloquently and clearly of the marvels and accomplishments
of Jesus in the plan of the Father. People became believers.
Suggested Action:
Today, look at your weaknesses and strengths. Ask the Holy Spirit
for enlightenment.
