Monday
of the Third Week of Easter
April 11, 2005
Scripture:
Acts 6:8-15; John 6:22-29
Reflection:
Today’s readings invite us to reflect on our focus.
In the gospel, the crowd comes after Jesus looking for more of
the bread with which he had fed them the previous day. He tells
them they are looking for the wrong thing. They should be looking
for the bread that he will give them that will remain to life
eternal.
In the first reading, “certain people” try to trip
Stephen up. They try to debate with him. They hurl accusations
at him. But they are no match for him. Through it all he has the
demeanor of an angel.
Why? He does not let the focus of those others become his focus.
He is not unduly worried about taking care of bodily needs or
gaining the approval of other people. He is focused on the Bread
of Life, the Word that he has received and the mission on which
this has placed him.
Suggested Action:
Let us do the same. Today, when the petty concerns of life begin
to distract you from what truly matters, stop yourself and return
to your focus as a person of the Resurrection.
