Thursday
of the Third Week of Easter
April 14, 2005
Scripture: Acts
8:26-40; John 6:44-51
Reflection:
“How can I, unless someone instructs me?” The eunuch
was reading the scriptures and truly wanted to know about whom
he was reading. Philip was happy to talk about Jesus with him
and explain what the scripture passage meant. How often do people
ask us to share our faith and we are embarrassed or we share just
a little bit so they will not question us more? Do we feel that
our faith is too personal? Do we fear being mocked, ridiculed
or condemned for what we believe? Do we fear being treated just
as Jesus was? Our faith is a treasure that we have been given
to share with others. When we receive a gift, don’t we want
to share it with our closest friends?
Once the eunuch understands the scripture passage he asks to be
baptized. Think of the people who come into our lives each day
who might ask to “be baptized” into our faith if we
just took the time to share with them what a special gift it is
that we have been given through virtue of our baptism. After all,
what would Jesus expect us to do?
Suggested Action:
How will you respond the next time someone asks you to share your
faith? Why do you believe? Take some time and reflect on your
response today.
