Scripture: Jonah
3:1-10; Luke 11:29-32
Reflection:
What a lesson we have to learn from the people of Nineveh! They
simply believed the message of God that Jonah delivered, repented
and changed their lives. It seems to me that now it’s
our turn to do likewise. Just look at the world and its tumultuous
situations at the present time. We’re experiencing war,
devastation, and major natural disasters, the likes of which
are unknown in our lifetime. Are these not perhaps also “the
sign of Jonah”? Should we not also believe, repent and
change our lives? Let us listen to the king of Nineveh who warned,
“everyone must pray earnestly to God and give up their
wicked behavior and evil actions.” At the time of Jonah,
when God saw the sincere reaction of the people, he changed
his mind and did not punish the people. Let us hope for a similar
response.
Suggested Action:
It’s a monumental feat to get everyone in our world to
pray earnestly and give up wicked behavior and evil actions.
It is not, however, difficult to begin with ourselves. Let’s
take some extra time today to talk personally with God and to
treat those we meet with compassion and respect.
