Sunday of Lent

Scripture: Genesis 12: 1-4A; 2 Timothy
1:8B-10;
Matthew 17:1-9
Reflection:
In today’s readings God shares with Abram and the disciples
of Jesus the vision of a holy and blessed nation—a world
transformed by love and compassion. Abram is asked to leave what
is familiar and comfortable and journey to a land that God will
show him. Peter, James, and John are asked to lay aside their
idea of building three tents in honor of Moses, Elijah, and Jesus
and are told to do nothing but listen.
Like our spiritual ancestors, we too are invited to collaborate
in the Spirit’s work of transforming the world. It may be
frightening to shift our focus from the known—that which
is directly in front of us and seemingly very important at the
moment—to the unknown. It may seem like a waste of time
to stop our activity and listen to another who has a different
perspective from our own. Are we willing to take the personal
risks needed to help transform our world? Do we realize that by
relying on God’s power we are letting go of our need to
be in control and choosing to transform the world into a place
that welcomes all?
Suggested Action:
Look where and on what you focus most of your attention. Ask yourself
who benefits from your efforts and activity. Take a risk, and
find a new way to share your love and compassion with others.
