Monday
of the Second Week of Lent
February 21, 2005
Scripture: Daniel 9:4B-10; Luke 6: 36-38
Reflection:
As we read and reflect on the prayer of the prophet Daniel, we
are reminded of the human condition that prevails over time. We
hear about the sinfulness and rebellion of people who have turned
away from our loving and merciful God. Even the prophets fail
to call them back to a life of faithfulness.
During this Lenten season we are asked to Stop, Look, and Listen
to the story of our lives. We still have God’s commandments
to observe, and Jesus tells that we must be merciful, forgive
others and give generously without judging or condemning. We still
have prophets in our world today who remind us of the many ways
we can be people of prayer, service and holiness.
We keep company with a great and awesome God who is kind and merciful;
full of compassion and forgiveness. There are so many people who
long to be reminded of this, for they live and work in situations
that often pull them away from their relationship with God. Lent
is a good time to ponder this Scripture message and see how much
our life is packed and overflowing with a “good measure”
of goodness and fidelity.
Suggested Action:
Stop, and think about what is important in your life.
Look, and see how your actions reveal your goodness.
Listen, and hear the words you speak to others.
