Saturday
of the Second Week of Lent
February 26, 2005
Scripture:
Micah 7:14-15, 18-20; Luke 15:1-3,11-32
Reflection:
In Micah we see the people longing for a closer relationship with
God. In the last verse we read of the hope for forgiveness, clemency,
and the continued faithfulness of God.
In the second reading we see the deep concern Jesus has for sinners.
Because of this concern, he is criticized by the Pharisees and
the Scribes. He refutes them with two common situations, a lost
sheep and a lost coin. In the parable of the prodigal son, Jesus
lets us know that our Father God will not stand in our way when
we exercise our God given free will and indulge in idle and foolish
conduct, by following the example of friends and associates who
have no respect for God or God’s temple, their own bodies.
They have no time for church or fellowship with people who give
glory to God in prayer and song. In spite of all of this, our
merciful God is waiting to forgive us if we ask through Jesus
our Lord and Savior.
Suggested Action:
Pray for spiritual strength through reconciliation and more
frequent attendance at Mass and receiving the Holy Eucharist.
Overcome any weakness with a strong faith in the power of reconciliation.
