Third
Sunday of Lent
February 27, 2005
Scripture:
Exodus 17:3-7; Romans 5:1-2, 5-8; John 4:5-42
Reflection:
Given the challenge to drink of his living water, the woman from
Samaria said to Jesus, “Sir, give me this water so that
I may not be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.”
She was given the grace to recognize that, though her water was
fulfilling, it alone was not enough to nourish, cleanse, and sustain
her. She not only accepted Jesus’ invitation to drink fully
of the waters, but had the courage to leave her jar behind and
be a witness to the people bearing the message of Christ.
Suggested Action:
Pray for the courage to leave your jar at the well with Jesus
so you may be unburdened and filled with living waters as you
bring Christ’s love and forgiveness “into the town.”
