Scripture: Exodus
32:7-14; John 5:31-47
Reflection:
Moses implores God, “Relent and let your blazing wrath die
down,” as he seeks to convince God to give his stiff-necked
people another chance. The Lord relents. Our all-loving and all-forgiving
God has sent many messengers down through the ages to guide his
people.
John’s task was to prepare God’s people for the coming
Messiah. Jesus tells the people that he has testimony greater
than John’s, because by accomplishing the works the Father
gave him to do, Jesus is giving testimony to the Father, who is
his witness. Even as they study the Scripture, their minds and
hearts are closed to the real message. “But you do not want
to come to me to have life!” Jesus complains. To come to
Jesus is to come with hearts open to see and hear his message
and be willing to make changes. To see things differently was
and is a challenge. Those who did left everything and followed
him.
Suggested Action:
Ask for the grace to be open to change as we search the Scripture
that we may grow ever more like the Son and follow him right into
the Father’s arms.
