Wednesday
of the Fifth Week of Lent
March 16, 2005
Scripture: Daniel 3:14-20, 21-22, 25; John 8:31-42
Reflection:
The three young men, Shadrack, Meshach, and Abednego, were thrown
into the white-hot furnace bound and fully clothed. Yet, when
King Nebuchadnezzar peeks into the furnace, he saw not three,
but four young men, and the fourth had the appearance of a god.
All of them were unbound and unharmed. Amazingly enough, not even
the smell of fire came from the three when they emerged from the
furnace. This is a reminder that God is always with us, protecting
us from harm, guiding and caring for us. Not only is God always
with us, but our God goes before us. We need to trust our God
in all that happens to us, not only in important events, but on
a daily basis. There is a reason for everything that happens to
us.
The three young men were the instruments that God used to convert
King Nebuchadnezzar. The King’s entire nation was turned
toward God. We never know the power of our good example; God can
and does use anything to bring people closer to God.
Suggested Action:
At the end of the day, look back at the times when God was taking
care of you or protecting you. Reflect and be grateful for the
love of such an awesome God.
