Thursday of the Fifth Week of Lent March 17, 2005 Scripture: Genesis 17:3-9; John 8:51-59 Reflection: The readings from Genesis and John today reveal that God in his covenant with Abraham and his descendants is also covenanting with us, descendants of Abraham, our father in faith. These readings inspired me to reflect upon my response to God’s covenant with me when he invited me to live the evangelical counsels. Just as Abraham was called so long ago, given a new name, and invited into a closer relationship with God, so were we. “The Lord remembers his covenant forever.” Do we? Suggested Action: Today, let us renew our vows that have brought us into our special relationship with Jesus, thank him for inviting us, and ask his help to be faithful to our commitment.
