Solemnity
of Joseph, Husband of the Virgin Mary
Saturday, March 19, 2005
Scripture:
2
Samuel 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16; Romans 4:13, 16-18, 22; Matthew 1:16,
18-21, 24A
Reflection:
Faith is trusting and believing, even when we don't fully understand.
Today's readings speak to us of faith… the faith of an
Abraham, David, and Joseph the husband of Mary. How could an
elderly man and his wife understand that they would bear a child
and number their descendants as numerous as the stars? How could
a triumphant king understand that his house and his kingdom
would endure forever? How could a simple carpenter understand
that his dreams would impact salvation history? None fully understood,
but they believed that God's promises to them would be fulfilled.
I believe, Lord, help my unbelief . . .on the
threshold of Holy Week, what keeps me from fully believing in
God's promises to me? Like Joseph I dream marvelous dreams,
but I lack the courage to risk what those dreams demand. Solid,
faithful, courageous Joseph pray for me! May my Alleluia this
Easter be a reminder that LOVE has kept its promises to me!
Suggested Action:
Dream marvelous dreams of peace, reconciliation
and all-inclusive love for your family, community, church, the
world. Pray for the courage to act on your dreams!
