Scripture: Isaiah 50:4-9, Psalm 69, Matthew 26:14-25
Reflection:
As we end the season of Lent we are reminded, by our readings,
that Jesus was ready to forgive everyone, if only we were willing
to be forgiven. Isaiah foretold that the Savior was willing
to undergo terrible suffering and yet save us from our sin.
Our Psalm reminds us that for those who seek God, our hearts
will be merry. And even in Matthew, we are reminded that Jesus
knew who would betray him and when Jesus gave Judas another
chance to change his mind, Judas was too arrogant to admit the
wrong he had done. How often do we refuse to acknowledge our
limitations, mistakes, shortcomings? How often must we be right?
And at what expense to others?
As we celebrate the Paschal Mystery of dying and rising, may
we be better able to look at ourselves as God sees us, and not
try to kid ourselves about being perfect!
Suggested
Action:
In the next three days spend ten minutes of quiet time in front
of a mirror and imagine looking at yourself and seeing what
God sees: a beautiful piece of God’s handiwork with human
limitations.
