Wednesday
of the Seventh Week of Easter
May 11, 2005
Scripture: Acts 20: 28-38 John 17: 11,13-19
Reflection:
“That they all may be one.” Jesus’ prayer to
the Father was the essence of his life and ministry. The proclamation
of God’s love for all persons and the desire that all reciprocate
that love is the predominant theme of all Scripture.
The evil one, Satan, has done and will continue to do all in his
power to separate, divide and alienate people through the ages.
There will always be differences of opinion, different philosophical
viewpoints, perspectives and theological views. Despite all these
differences, we are called to live in harmony with one another
and to try to resolve differences amicably.
Many times did Jesus exhort his disciples to forgiveness. “Not
seven times, but seventy times seven. Let not the sun go down
on your anger.” We are Christ’s body to those around
us. What people see, hear and touch of Christ is through us. People
can come to Faith by who we are and how we live; or their Faith
can be weakened in the same way. What victory the evil one wins
when disunity exists between nations, churches and families who
exhibit hatred, alienation and intolerance!
Suggested Action:
Since living in love is the divine action of the Holy Spirit within
us, let us pray each morning: “Spirit of God, direct all
I do today and let me be an instrument for peace to all I meet.”
