Saturday:
Feast of Matthias, Apostle
May 14, 2005
Scripture: Genesis 11:19; Romans 8:22 – 27;
John 7:37 – 39
Reflection:
I wonder about so many things when it comes to the mystery of
our God. A few days earlier, Mary and the other followers of Jesus
watched sorrowfully as Jesus disappeared from view. I assume the
crowd ran back into the upper room waiting anxiously for the Spirit
to come.
What did they think about as they waited? What did they say to
one another? Were they afraid? The followers of Jesus had so many
questions.
These are the same questions that I have today during this Easter
Season. I - we have so many questions: why do we have war, natural
disasters, violent actions, angry people?
These are questions to which I have no answer, save the one that
is found in the gospel for today, “Let anyone who thirsts,
come to me and drink.” It is Jesus who will fill us with
the Spirit who will enable us to go out among the people and share
the good news of the gospel.
Suggested Action:
Listen to running water and reflect on the idea that Jesus is
filling us with the water of life and love. Think about how you
can share that “living water” with others.
